Your brakes are arguably the most important thing about your vehicle. Going is only half the equation- you also need to be able to STOP: quickly, suddenly, safely, and most importantly, when you NEED to. Many drivers overlook their braking system until it's too late- and realize that there is not enough distance to stop or avoid an accident.

Brake parts are consumable and wear out over the lifetime of the vehicle- parts like the rotors and pads wear out, and rubber brake fluid lines and o-rings and seals can degrade over time. This can lead to many different symptoms such as brake fade, loss of braking ability, difficulty braking, brake pedal vibrations, increased stopping distances, loss of stopping power, and more. Your brake pedal should not have too much slack or excess movement without actually engaging the brakes and slowing the vehicle.

There is a factor or quality of brake pads called "initial bite"- Your brakes should have good initial bite and overall braking ability should increase with steady application of progressive brake pressure. Your brakes should engage smoothly, without vibration, and without steering or pulling the vehicle to either side without your input.
